12:00
Nueva Reubicacion Yibeljoj
Yibeljoj is one of the newest refugee camps of displaced indigenes
and one of the poorest. We arrive in a downpour and slog thru
6 inches of mud to reach the camp. The performance is attended
by the entire community of about 250. We are joined by payasos
Nalle and Angela from sweden. We spend the night and all get
sick! The next morning we do a workshop for about 30 young
men. We feel energized by their enthusiasm.
1/19/03
12:00
Tsajal Ukum
A small zapatista community near Yibeljoj. We perform for
the community of about 75 men, women and children. Lots of
mud!
1/20/03
12:00
Acteal
We are cold, tired and dirty as we arrive at the pillar of
shame that welcomes visitors to this sacred hillside where
so many ghosts still haunt the living. Unfortunately there
are not many people there and so we make do and perform for
about 50 people.
1/21-22/03
Melel Xojobal
We are invited to teach a two day workshop the culminates
in a group performance with the 15 participants at the main
square in San Cristobal. The workshop focuses on physical
theatre skills such as mime, movement, clown, juggling and
human pyramids.
1/23/03
El Bosque
We perform to about 400 people in front of the catholic church.
We spend the night.
1/24/03
Oventic Autonomos
We perform to about 100 inside the main auditorium.
